Western Steam is owned and operated by Helen Verrall-Stait, the only lady in the country making copper boilers for model steam engines of all types.
On leaving school in 1985 Helen was apprenticed to a local boiler makers and attended Weston-Super-Mare Technical College gaining the City & Guild of London Institute certificates. During her time with this company she established her own reputation for the quality of her work and became well known among the model engineering fraternity.
Western Steam was established in 1990 by Ron Walker, a former colleague and friend at the same company. Sadly Ron passed away in 1998 and Western Steam was taken over by Helen shortly after. Since then Helen's reputation as a boiler maker has grown; her quality and attention to detail means that her boilers are something to be seen and admired!
GS Model Supplies took over the retail part of the business previously run as Western Steam Supplies; the business is owned and operated by Geoff Strait.
Geoff, a former President of the Birmingham Model Engineering Society, has over 15 years of experience in the model engineering trade and has welcomed the opportunity to join forces with Helen and bring his knowledge to the South West.
Geoff's aim is to supply as many of the needs of the model engineer as possible so if you have any problems getting something to make your life as a model engineer easier, do not hesitate to contact Geoff, he may be able to help!
